It is becoming clearer and clearer to me that I'm going to have to take vacation time to do decent recordings. Trying to do them in the late-night (for me) time slot results in me sounding as if it's, well, late. As it turns out, reading has exposed some needed edits anyway (at the risk of being ironically repetitive, there is nothing better for making repeated words or padding words stand out than reading a passage aloud) so I don't feel as if I'm losing time.

I recall being at a writer's conference several years ago at which a well-known successful author more or less suggested to everyone that they had a choice: write at 4 in the morning or let their spouses and kids fend for themselves. I now understand better where she was coming from, even as I still reject her advice. There's no need to stay up past midnight most nights!

It takes a few minutes to move a podcast from wav to wma, and thence to mp3. Those strike me as good moments for blogging, since I wouldn't be productive then anyway. I confess at the outset: most blogs leave me cold. Mine may well be no exception. Yet in the ground between exposure and artfulness there may yet be some space for me to talk about what I'm doing here at podiobooks.
