Writing out Harry Potter

I haven't posted in a very long time. What has happened is this: I continue to get very positive feedback on my novel, and everyone has said the same thing: it's too bad it's fan fiction, can't you take out the Harry Potter so it can be published. I thought, ""Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, thank you very much but I'm not worthy, this is my first piece of fiction, leave it as it is and go on." Yesterday a neighbor if mine stated reading it and by the third chapter was saying it should be published...and… Continue

Rough version of intro song

I asked a musician friend of mine if he could create something for my book. I asked for a specific song, Telegraph Lines (Telgrafin telleri), a popular Turkish classical music tune. I want a version of this song because 1) it shows up in the novel, and 2) it's so old there is no copyright issue. I asked for a cross between the traditional way (which can be heavy) and baroque guitar (I have a weakness for baroque music in general), and he came up with this. It's very rough (he is the first to sa… Continue

A toe in the ballpark

Last night N came across the headset I once bought intending to use with Skype, but never did. I plugged it in, fired up Audacity and read a few pages of my novel and listened to it. I'll need to practice with pacing and do some rewording past awkward words... I know, I need to get a better microphone. This was just a test. At least it is a start. I'm in the ballpark. Just a toe, but in nonetheless. Musician friend is working on intro

The point to my self-serving blog posts

Two more friends have started reading my novel. Here is a comment from one of them:
I downloaded it at home after work, and after dinner started reading. I've gone straight through to chapter 9, and I hate to stop! I love how everything is so woven together - Turkey, history, magic, cat behavior, the food. As I read, I see you! But apart from that, I just want to read more - the story is captivating me. And I'm not a Harry Potter devotee - I've read enough to be familiar and enjoy t…

Sounds like

I fell guilty for not having listened to any podiobooks lately. I have been writing my novel, and since the beginning of the month, I have been inundated with editing. I am the director of editing services at a university in Istanbul. I make sure all of our theses and dissertations are ready for publication. I had to convince our Institutes that they are actual publishing bodies and as such, every manuscript should be prepared according to a house style. I wrote a spell-binding manual on how to… Continue

Quarter Share is the beginning of the saga -- if you like that one, they only improve from there.

Double Share is the latest, probably the best, and DOES stand alone -- mostly ;)
