First Installment, First Effort--how close am I?

OK, here's the current iteration. It's the cleanest I've been able to do with my current setup (as described in my other thread).

Is there anything I'm missing? It sounds better in headphones than with earbuds or car speakers, but to my untrained ears it sounds OK at this point. Then again, if you listen to the same thing enough times, it can start sounding like Beethoven's Ninth. Or a car alarm.

The good:

The sound is clean, the diction is clear

The bad:
Intro music goes on about 10 seconds too long without words - remember, someone who's not you will experience that time as much longer than you do - 10 secs is the maximum you want to go without actually saying what your audience is listening to it, and even that's pushing it. Ditto for the music come-down after you finish talking.

The text reading is balanced WAY too quiet vs. the opening.

You're voice is deeply, deeply soothing and your pacing is very even. This is wonderful for a bed time story, but not for keeping your audience awake. Mix it up some, and work on giving your action passages a sense of movement, urgency, and occasion.

Thanks, Dan. I work better with goalposts, and you've given me some. :) I'm relieved that the sound quality is sufficient, since that's the part I really felt that I was guessing at.

Hi Jeffery,
I am no expert but I did put on my headphones and listen to your test installment. The only criticism I can make is that the cow bell and beeping were so much louder than your smooth toned voice that it was a bit jarring. I actually had to turn the volume down and then back up when you started reading. Interesting story so far. It has me Screaming NOOOO don't burn the... NO!
Your voice is great the read solid. Congrats.

Thanks, Rhonda. I will definitely be resetting the gain levels down on the intro/outro--actually I'll probably use the envelope tool in Audacity to "remix" those entirely.
