I previously posted the prologue to Fractured Horizon and based on the feedback I made a bunch of changes. I purchased a new Nady condenser microphone, sacrificed an onyx sandle-foot stocking for a pop filter, and made friends with Audacity.

When I went to re-record, I couldn't help doing some additional editing (because it's a sickness of mine). I decided to reduce the amount of background information in the prologue and to tone it down. If you listened to the previous version you might notice the difference.

I took a stab at making an entire broadcast, so the file I'm attaching is Episode 1, and includes my introduction, the prologue, chapter one, and the exit. Does it all work? Would you want to listen to more?

Feel free to address whatever strikes you-- sound quality, narration style, story elements and music. What have I not considered?

I had a terrible cold that lingered for weeks, so it wasn't lack of enthusiasm that has taken me this long to re-record. It did make me appreciate why I'd want to have at least 5 episodes stockpiled. I think I'll also be glad not to start recording my novel during cold season. Yuck.

This is much better. The file started with some kind of sound artifacts in the background ... it gave a scratchy sound to the prologue but it cleared up by the end.

Nice music,. Only suggestion is to "duck it down" a little bit more in the intro. Outro was good. Nice touch to explain the terms of the license.

Pacing was good. A *little* fast, but i'm guilty of that myself.

Story seems interesting.

Episode was a nice length.

Let's see what the others picked up on that I missed :)
Great! Reducing the volume of the music was a simple change to make.

Ah. It's nice to feel like I'm finally making progress. I am DONE recording the start of my book. Just several hundred pages more to go! It's daunting but I think it will be fun.

Thanks for setting me on the right path. I'm going to have enough other ways to make a fool of myself in the near future.
Solid effort. Agree that the music in the intro was a touch competitive with your voice. You've improved your pacing a great deal. Great job!
I will continue to work on the pacing. When I listen back I would swear that the computer had a glych and was playing double time since I sound so much higher and faster than I expect.

Oh well, I don't suppose there's a solution for that except practice.

Thanks again!
is there a particular time on the file that you feel the audio speeds up? Changes in sample rates can make your voice go faster/slower than expected. This wouldn't happen in only one place though, unless you recorded different files and spliced them together...
