"You never really get the smell of burning flesh out of your nose entirely, no matter how long you live." - J.D. Salinger
"That night, I thanked God for seeing me through that day of days and prayed I would make it through D plus 1. I also promised that if some way I could get home again, I would find a nice peaceful town and spend the rest of my… Continue

The story is funny, poignant, and intriguing. What I love most about this story, though, is the intense tone that it takes about a city bureaucracy and its inner workings. Having worked for a couple of bureaucracies in my life (the U.S. Army and… Continue

Today I leave for a two-week African safari. That's the good news--well, from my perspective. The bad news is that because this trip came up last-minute (I've had just a little over a week to get ready), I wasn't able to prepare extra episodes of Dreaming of Deliverance (http://www.podiobooks.com/title/dreaming-of-deliverance), and so there will be a 3-week gap between episode 24, which I'm hoping goes live today, and episode… Continue
Yes, I know I've been writing a lot lately about J.D. Salinger, a guy who basically hid from humanity for the past 40 years. But the man's death plunged me into a full-scale review of his work, much of which I had read when I was far less mature than I am now. Reading it now, when I'm in my upper 30s, so much more of its brilliance shines through. And more of my analysis seems ready-made for blog-post essays.
To wit:
As I've written about <a href="http://frankmarcopolos.com/… Continue

I'll have it recorded the best I can next week, but the whole book won't be up until mid summer. Sorry but my work load is what's holding it back. Just want feedback on the audio quality, the interest it generates, and of course my voice quality. Continue

Friends,
I'm not sure how long this one is going to last. The new story up on the website is "This Sandwich Has No Mayonnaise" by J.D. Salinger. But there's a problem...
http://frankmarcopolos.com
...The problem is the story was published in 1945 by Esquire Magazine, and therefore it is not yet in the public domain. Mr. Salinger's reputation being what it is, I may not be able to keep the story on the site for long. So, if you really want to hear it, y… Continue

Spent some time figuring out a promo and tinkering with GarageBand. I bought myself a Snowball Mic and am happy with the sound quality. Now the stories that predate the book, there already up on a separate site. I'm having a guy look at one to see if i have what it takes as a writer. I don't mind having more, let me know and i'll post a link.
"Why?" this girl with shiny blonde/brown hair asked me in the TriBeCa Tavern recently. I was nursing a Guiness, waiting for my date to show up. "Why the hell would ANYone join the military voluntarily?"
This being TriBeCa, home of the trust-funders and the barna… Continue

My podiobook, "Some Other Scotland", now has it's own wiki page. This might be something you would like to investigate yourself if your podiobook could benefit from it.
The plot of my story is reasonably convoluted, with action taking place over a number of locations with many characters being involved. The setting and timeline of the story also draws in and refers to historical events and people. To further complicate matters, I have a number of short stories that are set in the same w… Continue

I have a book to write but it will be up sometime in the fall. Although I do have stories to the book. Need to debate if I want to put them in audio. Continue
Friends,
The new story up on the website is "The Big Trip Up Yonder" by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. Project Gutenberg has determined that this story's copyright was never renewed, and that it is now in the public domain. Which is why I am allowed to perform it! Woo-hoo!
Check it out...
http://frankmarcopolos.com
I love this story because it dispays Vonnegut's wit, and features one of his favorite themes -- overpopulation. It is set in the future, 2185 A.D. to… Continue

Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. and J.D. Salinger are forever linked in my mind because of a trip I took some years ago to see the American West. It was during that trip that these two men, so different in their public personas, became two of the writers I most admired, I most wished I could be, and that I most loved.
There is an aspect of the work of these two men that ties them together as we… Continue

So it goes.
Holden Caulfield: If you really want to hear about it, the first thing you'll probably want to know is where I was born, and what my lousy childhood was like, and how my parents were occupied and all before they had me, and all that David Copperfield kind of crap, but I don't feel like going into it, if you want to know the truth.

I got the news of the man's death on my cell phone… Continue

Friends,
Are you ready to laugh?
The story up on the website is "My Favorite Murder" by one of my favorite writers, Ambrose Bierce. It is full of jocularity and wit. I hope you enjoy it...
http://frankmarcopolos.com
Bierce's humorous side is probably best known from the hilarious "Devil's Dictionary." It contains entries such as the following:
“NEIGHBOR, n. One whom we are commanded to love as ourselves, and who does all he knows how to make us disob… Continue

So, I set myself a deadline of January 1st to finish the rewrite of the first book in the Markmasters Trilogy. Well...I didn't make it. As a punishment, I had to eat Japanese natto (fermented soybeans). And you think haggus is disgusting...you haven't seen this stuff. Here's the video of my punishment for all those who think schadenfreude is acceptable: I sure do!
I promise to write more!!! Continue
Hi! I just wanted to let you all know that I've contributed a signed copy of the print version of Dreaming of Deliverance to "The Boom Effect" a fundraiser for Sonic Boom, the daughter of Podiobooks.com co-founder Tee Morris.
As I'm sure you're already aware, Tee lost his wife Natalie unexpectedly earlier this month, and Phillipa Ballentine has set up an online auction to raise money for 5-year-old Sonic Boom's future college expenses.
So if you don't want to wait the several more months that… Continue

Humans are frenzied islands of consciousness, possessing characteristics both good and evil. If we wish to contemplate reality, then we must accept that our good characteristics are balanced with flaws, faults and limitations. Conversely, the malevolent side of our nature possesses some beneficial qualities, as well. It is this balance of the good and wicked sides of our personality that we must understand. But, we must dig deeper to truly comprehend the complex foundation of our behavior… Continue
