I don't know. It could come from the Mic, the Mic Lead or the Plugs, or something else.

I find that Swapping parts to track the problem. Swap the Mic, still static, then the Mic isn't the problem. The problem with this method is that you need some spare equipment.

It may help if you uploaded some audio for us to listen to. It may help us work out the problem, and Also it will rule out your output.

Need a lot more info before we can troubleshoot. What kind of mic do you have? How is it connected? Have you had this problem before? How loud is the static?

First thing, unplug your mic and pre amp (if you have one). Record "silence". Still getting static? If so, then you've got electrical problems inside your computer. And those are not fun to troubleshoot.

I have attached a sampling of something i recorded last night i was listening to this with a pair of headphones and it seemed more prominant then through my speakers but it still bothers me. I got this mic for using a program called Ventrillo when I play World of Warcraft and it is a (i think)3.5 mm plug. I am going to be ordering a new microphone in a week that is a podcast quality mic.
tks for your input

Well, I'm seriously leaning to the Mic. I am going take guess that it's a headset Mic, as your occasional head movement could do it.

It's your mic. And not only is it staticy, but horribly muffled. Hopefully your new mic will be a lot better. Do yourself a favor and spend the money on a quality one.

I was 90% sure, the other 10% was actually lack of experience. But Yeah, the Mic is clearly going to hurt you for the actual recordings, my Bluetooth headset did.

Actually, I shouldn't be sound so sure. From what i can tell, it's your input chain, but that could also be your soundcard.

Theoretically, if you're getting a podcasting mic, then it will be USB. If the one you're considering isn't, then reconsider the choice.

Its a stand mic and yes the one i am choosing is this one I am putting in the description from the website.
Cardioid Condenser USB Mic
The MXL USB.006 Cardioid Condenser Microphone has an extremely smooth, natural sound typical of what you'd hear on a professionally produced CD or radio show. Completely plug and play, the MXL USB.006 doesn't skimp on quality with a gold-sputtered diaphragm and 20Hz-20kHz frequency response. It even has a 3-position, switchable attenuation pad that makes it easy to configure this mic to just about any sound source. Comes with carrying case, desktop microphone stand/adapter & 10' USB cable

Any opnion on this would be appreciated
