Podiobooks.com Community

A place for all fans, authors and creators of Podiobooks.com

I just started on the Closing of a shorter story. The current Word count is just over 5000. I don't think it will break 6000. (There is also a Full Crit/editing still to do) Is this too small for a PodioBook? (How many words is a Normal Episode, and Book)

If it's not enough: Where would some of the writers recomend me going, as I like to have this out there.

PS. I have Commuication Difficulties (Both Speaking and writing), plus my Lips kinda shut down when I use a Mike. (I'm glad I'm playing "Dave Bowman", who Last Line was about 20 pages before I the part I'm creating Specail FX for.)

I've editing this to and is over 20,000 words already. I'm shutting this down.

If it's a short story then you might want to find a podcast that deals with short stories and submit it there.

Here the real Dilemma:

It's actually it's a Stand alone part of a Novel. (It explains in detail the Absence/Location of the Main characters mother, but most of the few points are repeated in the Novel)

Two of the characters appear in the 3rd and 4th chapters of the said novel, one with a significant part of the novel. Most of the large Part Characters do return.

Sticking it on PodCastle seems fine for the story, but not the novel.

Podiobooks for the novel, but how to do the short story..

5000 words is an episode for me. That's my target number of words for a 30 minute epi.

If it's really integral to the understanding of the novel, then it probably needs to be chapter 1 of the novel. If it doesn't, then Pod Castle is probably the answer.

So it sounds like post on PodCastle. Then Advertise the Fact that PodCastle Episode # has "Gamma 0 -The Fall" (The WIP title, it's stuck, so it may be the title), during several Episodes that Contain's the POV of The Fall.

Just to make sure you understand, podcastle is an fantasy short story podcast that you'll have to submit your story to, just like you would to a magazine/short story anthology.

I have a separate feed for Murder at Avedon Hill, and on my site I posted a short story set in that 'world' as a T-Minus episode. It gave people a sense of my writing style, and hopefully set the stage for the novel (story takes place twenty-some years before the novel, but has a character or two that appear in the novel).

It might be a way to go for you as well.

It's Part of a Time Traveling "Sword and Sorcery" which I think falls under Fantasy.

The Story follows a Mage, 'Lana... why post it again? I've got a Blog post about it: http://community.podiobooks.com/profiles/blog/show?id=1901178%3ABlo...

Chapter one is Set just a few months short 21 years after the Short. The one of the Main characters of this Novel is refered to in the Short, and is spotted for a second in one scene. And 'Lana the main character of the short pays the rent for the Novel Main characters in the opening scenes.

A significant part of the Novel is set about 16 years since the Short Story. The other times are 1000s of years either side. It sounds more messy than It is.

Mike,

I'm curious how you intend to get past the "Communication Difficulties (Both Speaking and writing)"? I'm less concerned about the speaking (I've removed the odd capitalization) part of that, as almost everyone thinks they have narrating -- and most don't.

But if you have problems with writing, you need to resolve those before considering submitting you story anywhere. If you are new to writing -- learn your craft. Practice like mad, join writing groups, get feedback, ask for edits, read books, write some more and generally get to a point where you are proud of your written word -- THEN tackle narration. But not before.

Have you heard of Forward Motion ( http://www.fmwriters.com/ ), which was started by Holly Lise?

I'm currently working through it with the People on the Forward Motion's site/Chat room.

As for Difficulties.
Speaking: I have a noticeable Stammer expecally when I'm nervous/stressed. Whist this stammer is not hard to get around if You're speaking to me.. But You really don't want to Listen to me Stammer those 6000 words!

Writing: The biggest thing to help is the keyboard.. I've been working on this since 2003.. I do my share of reading.. But Not on the Bus, as I throw up if I read a Book, it's where PodioBooks comes in.

If want to have a Look.. You ask me for the WIP..

Mike,

Sounds like you've got a few things going to help you improve as a writer. Well done. Now if you can get your keyboard to stop randomly capitalizing non-proper nouns, you'll be in great shape. ;)

I usually catch the Capitalizaions when I read through it again, at least hours later.. Kinda get's stuck here.

At the moment it working out what points and scenes needed or not.

does your stammer happen when you are reading as well? I had a problem with stuttering (not a serious one) that I worked through as a teenager, which morphed into this thing where I pause while my mouth translates what my brain is trying to communicate. It doesn't happen when I read, though.

I don't know when I'm doing half the time..

As I'm a part of a Movie Based Course at Uni, I have had to my share of Acting. The Actual Doing is fine, it's the Lines. I can read it alone, but I personally don't think it will sell stuff.
