So you wanna be a podiobook provider, do you?

New to this idea? Read this post first!

Want to do better? Read this post first!

Have you read that post? Time for the next steps. Make a post and briefly describe your title or problem you are trying to solve. Then post a link to the audio file, using a service like DropBox or RapidShare to transfer the media file up to the web. Someone will be along to give you advice shortly.

Note that anyone can be a Mentor. Some have books on our site. Some don't. Choose wisely and do some follow up to see who is telling you what they think you should do.

I am curious.. are people finishing the writing of a work before starting the podiobook casting? or do you cast as you go? Also how many drafts are people going through before you start casting?

I tend to do a ton of self (and wife) editing of chapters as I write... which slows me down but I end up being happier about the work.

To Brian: In the order which you asked:

1. Most are wise enough to not try and podcast a work-in-progress.
2. Few "cast as you go" people would repeat the same mistake twice.
3. Do not start recording your book until the final edit. How many is that? Depends on your mad skillz as a writer and your connection with your editor. When it's ready, it's ready. But not before.

A big thank you to all the Mentors here that helped me get started on The Mark of a Druid. It is to be released tomorrow and I wanted to say thank you Nathan, Evo, P.G. anyone behind the sense that started or helps with this site. Wonderful folks and tones of help with a strong dose of you need to do it right. Lets hope I fall on the better side of that category!
Many thanks

Well, I am officially terrified. After reading all the rules and rereading the rules, I did a quick check and verified I am, in fact, human and am, therefore, apt to be flawed. It is with great trepidation I post my first episode as is suggested in step # 2 of 4 in 'Submitting your Podiobook'.

I do have a specific technical questions.
In tagging the file, I was not offered an option of 'genre' or 'part of compilation' - is this okay or is there something else I should do?

Call out to Nathan /PG help. I am having a itunes id3tag thing happening. I can see them but they are not getting uploaded. Is there something else I can do besides slid the file to the desk top and back to itunes to be sure they are actually there?

Writing to write is not enough - if no one else "hears" your product then you are hurting yourself - record post solicit advice strive to improve

That is my new year's resolution and it has been years since I have made one I thought here would be the right place to do it

Here's a technical question that I hope is so common there is a standard response. I'm getting set up to record my first installment for my book and I know I need to record in stereo mode (yes, I read instructions) but I'm having a problem doing that.

I'm using Adobe Soundbooth (seems like a quality product) and a Blue Snowball UBS microphone (I'm very happy with it -- it even looks cool) but I can't seem to get it to record in stereo mode -- just mono. Has anyone had this problem? If so -- what do you do? (btw, I'm in Vista).

I want to do this right the first time. Thanks.

I use neither of the tools you're using, but here's a hint that might simplify your life: you are not obligated to RECORD in stereo. The file you export and upload has to be in 128 Joint Stereo.

If you record in Mono, and can figure out how to turn that mono track into a stereo track in Adobe Soundbooth -- even if both sides are identical -- you'd be perfectly fine in technical terms, as long as the final MP3 you export is Joint Stereo in format.

Hope that helps.
