Standard RSS feed

I listen to a lot of podiobooks. Living at least thirty minutes from anywhere, I tend to burn through them fairly quickly. Because of this, I like to download episodes as soon as they are available, and store them on my iPod ready for use. The customised feeds don't really allow this, and I'd use the standard feed except for one problem:

When the feed is updated, the datestamps seem to be automatically adjusted to list the chapters in ascending order down the page. This results in chapters listed in the opposite order to everything else on my iPod. Not really a problem on its own for completed books, but when I subscribe to a book in progress, chapters end up scrambled around - the earlier chapters are in chronological order; those downloaded after subscription in reverse order. If more than one chapter is posted between feed refreshes, things get REALLY hectic.

Is there any particular reason we couldn't have a standard RSS feed that uses the original timestamps, so everything stays in the right order, but I can still get multiple chapters in a day without manually releasing them?

Permalink Reply by Evo Terra on October 7, 2009 at 9:17pm: We know we take some license with the RSS feeds. It was done with intent originally and still serves its purpose. Luckily for you, there's an easy fix.

Create a "smart playlist" that consists of files with the Group of "Podiobooks.com". You can then sort that list however you want. I have mine set up with the oldest first, but I know many who have them the other way. All your episodes will be in one place -- not in with your other podcasts. That works for me.; ▶ Reply to This

Something like http://www.podiobooks.com/title/awesome-book/feed/realdates? Having the current system of dating episodes doesn't really work well with the way that I consume podcasts in iTunes, and it's different from the way everyone else does things and the way RSS was designed. A smart playlist seems like a workaround to me.; ▶ Reply to This
